National Savings and Investments (NSI) has released a new online check to make sure people are looking after their finances, and the feature is endorsed by The Apprentice's Sir Alan Sugar.
The check, titled the Five Questions, prompts people to think about all aspects of their financial situation, after research by the company has found that 40 per cent of the British population have no long-term financial plan .
Britons also find information regarding their finances too confusing to worry about and the check will help people consider their debt, savings and how much their assets are worth.
John Prout, director of customer sales and retention at NSI, said: "Most people are very familiar with the healthy eating model of five portions daily. We want to encourage a similar mindset about financial planning to ensure people review their finances on a regular basis ."
A recent study by Alliance and Leicester found that reviewing accounts can allow people to take advantage of the best deals on the market, however two-thirds of British people are not considering it.
