Online energy billing cuts costs, says Moneysupermarket.com

Online price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com has given advice on how to cut the costs of energy bills during the credit crunch, encouraging homeowners to go online.

Using internet energy providers means that billing is paperless, and also allows energy customers to check their bills whenever they want.

Internet billing will allow customers to provide more accurate meter readings, which puts an end to estimated energy payments meaning that customers only pay for what they use.

Scott Byrom, utilities manager at Moneysupermarket.com, said: "An actual meter reading is quick and easy to do and by removing guess-timation you are less likely to over pay and be out of pocket, or on the flip side, under pay and become in debt to your provider."

Mr Byrom has urged those wishing to save money to move to an online tariff.

A Devon hotelier recently ended up paying £15,000 too much on his gas bill after two disconnected meters were included in his energy payments, a mistake which may have been avoided with online energy billing .
