Britons walking financial high wire, says Scottish Provident

Tue, 19 May 2009

British people are walking a tightrope when it comes to their personal finances, according to a new report by Scottish Provident .

In its new survey of the public's attitudes to their financial situation, called High Wire Britain, the insurance provider has found that the country is having to manage mortgage repayments, credit card debt and general living costs with little to fall back on.

The same study in 2003 showed that personal finance and protection was a low priority for many, but the economic climate was much less shaky than it is now.

Susan Barclay, of Scottish Provident, said: "You wouldn't walk a high wire without a strong safety net to protect you - isn't it time we protected ourselves against a financial fall?"

Businesses looking to take control of their finances may be interested in a series of free seminars held around the country by Barclays over the next few months.
